Natural, handmade soap

I recently wrote about the path toward using more natural products. This is certainly made possible by the wonderful soaps from Zeeplokaal. The name alone sounds pure, offers us a lesson in sustainability, and serves above all as inspiration for improving your bathroom rituals!

Founder Thijske is the great inspiration behind this beautiful brand. When she developed a terrible rash from a shower gel over four years ago, she decided that things could—and should—be different. That is how Zeeplokaal was born, and it has since grown into an established brand in various countries.

Do you still use soap? For me, soap always had something nostalgic about it, but not necessarily in a good way. It still had that old-fashioned image and didn't provide the luxurious feeling you might associate with higher-end shower gels.
But as I mentioned before, that is exactly the problem! Because those contain all sorts of ingredients that you really don't want to use, especially in your effort to use more sustainable products.

Why am I such a fan of Zeeplokaal soaps? Unlike other soaps, it doesn't dry out your skin, it offers wonderful care, and it smells fantastic, too. The packaging is far from old-fashioned and looks great in your bathroom. Finally, it is 100% natural and vegan.

And let's not forget the shampoo bar—something that might still be a step too far for you. Try it out, I'd say. The Maca & Grapefruit hair soap from Zeeplokaal is super easy to use. You first wet your hair and then rub the bar over it. The soap lathers surprisingly well. You might need to wash it twice and it can feel a bit coarse, but afterwards it feels super clean. There is body and volume in your hair, something 'normal' shampoo often takes out, as those many additives make your hair rather limp and therefore prone to getting greasy sooner.
